Il volume pubblica le relazioni presentate nella giornata in commemorazione di Francesco Del Punta (1941-2013), organizzata a Firenze dalla Società Internazionale per lo Studio del Medioevo Latino e dalla Scuola Normale Superiore nel novembre 2014, assieme ai saggi che altri studiosi hanno voluto tributare alla memoria del loro maestro, collega ed amico. L'insieme dei contributi rispecchia la molteplicità degli interessi culturali di Francesco Del Punta, incentrati sulla filosofia del Medio Evo, ma aperti a comprendere anche l'antichità greca e l'età moderna. I saggi interpretano compiutamente i due versanti del compito dello storico della filosofia medievale, così come inteso da Del Punta: la filologia e la critica testuale, da una parte, tese a stabilire testi di sicura affidabilità; il commento e l'analisi dottrinale, dall'altra, finalizzati a sondare la profondità di pensiero che le opere contengono. Nella prospettiva interculturale e multilinguistica cara a Del Punta, e da lui promossa con tutte le sue energie di studioso, docente, e diffusore di sapere, i testi analizzati spaziano dal greco, all'arabo e al latino come lingue di comunicazione filosofica e veicoli di scambio di conoscenza in epoca medievale.

The French Dominican William Peraldus or Guillaume Peyraut (died c. 1275), well known for his long summae on the vices and virtues, also produced several cycles of sermons, of which two deal with the Epistle and the Gospel readings for the Sundays of the Church year. This study analyzes the latter in some detail and argues that, rather than collecting sermons he had preached earlier, Peraldus wrote these sermons systematically for the use of other preachers. The Epistle sermons for the first Sunday in Advent and the Gospel sermons for the third Sunday in Advent are presented in their original Latin text together with an English translation in order to demonstrate how Peraldus dealt with the biblical text as well as his moral concerns and his literary style. The selected texts are then compared with several other major cycles produced in France in Peraldus's time. Like his summae on the vices and the virtues, Peraldus's sermons became very popular in medieval Europe, as is witnessed by selective copying and citations that can be seen in a number of instances primarily from the sermon literature of later medieval England. One aspect of this popularity is the adaptation of his material into a genuine sermon, as it can be found in the sermons attributed to Repingdon, of which one is here examined in detail.

Voici enfin paru le troisième tome de l'édition des Œuvres de Claudien, complétant l'édition des poèmes publics par une lecture politique de ses poèmes. Écrits dans un contexte politique trouble, ces Poèmes politiques prennent position pour le rétablissement d'un empire gouverné selon la tradition culturellement païenne, dans la lignée des empereurs-citoyens.
Les poèmes de Claudien se composent tout d'abord d'un "Panégyrique pour le consul Manlius Théodorus" (Panegyricvs dictvs Manlio Theodoro). S'en suit une invective "Contre Eutrope" (In Evtropivm L. I et II), évoquant la déchéance de celui qui naguère dirigeait l'État et finit par retrouver son ancienne condition d'esclave eunuque. S'y oppose l'exemplarité de l'"Éloge de Stilicon" (Lavs Stilichonis, L. I, II et III), grâce auquel le consulat retrouve sa dignité.
Claudien poursuit alors ses louanges en narrant la victoire militaire de Stilicon contre les Gètes dans "La guerre contre les Gètes" (De bello getico) avant de rendre hommage à son empereur Honorius dans un "Panégyrique pour le sixième consulat" (Panegyricvs de sexto consvlatv).
