Drawing on concepts common to historical anthropology and incorporating evidence from multiple lines of research (archaeological, iconographic, textual, and others), this volume aims to contribute to the invigoration of a social history of ancient housing through new research projects, publications, and digital tools from both individual and collaborative efforts. Né en 1526 à Limoges, Muret séjourna à Paris (1551-1553) puis s'enfuit à Toulouse via Bourges et gagna l'Italie en 1554. À Venise, il édita des textes classiques commentés grâce à Paul Manuce. Après un séjour à Padoue, il entra au service d'Hippolyte II d'Este (fin 1558-début 1559). À son retour d'un ultime séjour en France avec ce dernier (1561-1563), il s'installa définitivement à Rome. Demeurant au service des Este, il mena une carrière universitaire à La Sapienza où il enseigna la philosophie morale, le droit et la littérature latine presque jusqu'à sa mort (1585). Tout au long de son séjour italien, l'humaniste poursuivit ses activités savantes et entretint une importante correspondance tandis que ne cessait de croître sa réputation d'orateur. Ce volume réunit vingt-cinq contributions qui fournissent un éclairage neuf sur la bibliothèque de Muret, son activité de professeur et de philologue, ses liens avec d'autres humanistes et avec les milieux artistiques.

In this book, Muriel Moser investigates the relationship between the emperors Constantine I and his son Constantius II (AD 312–361) and the senators of Constantinople and Rome. She examines and contextualizes the integration of the social elites of Rome and the Eastern provinces into the imperial system and demonstrates their increased importance for the maintenance of imperial rule in response to political fragility and fragmentation. An in-depth analysis of senatorial careers and imperial legislation is combined with a detailed assessment of the political context - shared rule, the suppression of usurpations, Constantius' use of Constantine's memory. Using a wide range of literary, epigraphic, numismatic, and legal sources, some of which are as yet unpublished, this volume produces significant new readings of the history of the senates in Rome and Constantinople, of the construction of imperial rule and of historical change in Late Antiquity.

À l'État impérial antique a succédé, au Japon comme dans l'Occident romain, une période féodale caractérisée par l'éclatement de  l'autorité politique en multiples cellules autonomes. Cette mutation historique a eu sur les paysages ruraux des conséquences semblables, avant que les révolutions industrielles et l'essor urbain n'achèvent d'en démanteler la trame originelle, en Europe comme au Japon.
